Search process overview

Search Plan Development and Community Engagement

  • The Board of Education will hire a new search firm. (March 8th)
  • The Board of Education will develop and finalize the creation of an advisory committee as well as the timeline for the Superintendent search process. (March 15th)
  • The Board of Education will also hire a Community Engagement Facilitator to assist the board in implementation and project management.
    • Review community and board values reflected in the superintendent selection criteria
    • Provide opportunity for feedback and confirmation regarding the selection criteria and policy revisions.

Apply for Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Selection Committee

  • The Minneapolis Board of Education is looking for community members to participate in a Superintendent Selection Committee.
  • The committee will be comprised of 11 individuals: six community members — including one student community member — three Board members, the Board’s Student Representative and community engagement facilitator Radious Y. Guess of EPU Consultants.
  • To apply, candidates need to complete a Superintendent Selection Committee Application. The deadline for submissions was 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016.
  • EPU Consultants reviewed applicants for the Selection Committee. On April 5, 2016, at a Special Meeting, the Board of Education voted to approve the selection committee members recommended by EPU Consultants.  

Advertisement and Recruitment

  • Advertise position.
  • Notify districts statewide.
  • Notify candidate pool.
  • Receive all applications.

Screening and Committee Work

  • The search firm will review all candidates and credentials and prepare candidate information to be presented to the selection committee.
  • Selection committee works with search firm to narrow the candidate pool to a selection of finalist(s) that will be presented to the Board of Education.
  • Conduct in-depth referencing and background checks.

Board Interviews and Community Reception

  • Invite finalist(s) to Minneapolis for a formal interview and district tour.
  • Board of Education will interview finalist(s) presented from advisory committee.
  • Community reception.
  • View the public schedule.

Site Visit

  • Two board members will participate for all finalists prior to selection of preferred candidate.
  • A public report, both written and verbal, will be presented by the Board of Education.

  • May 23, 2016, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Davis Center Assembly Room
