Henry Jimenez, Community Representative – District 5. Henry (Latino) is the Executive Director of the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs.
What motivates you as a volunteer to serving on Minneapolis Public Schools superintendent Search Committee, and what educational committees have you served on?
I believe in education and contributing to my community. It all starts in schools and a healthy school makes for a healthy community. I have recently become a father and want nothing more than for my daughter to attend the Minneapolis Public Schools. However, I want to make sure I contribute my part as a community member at making our schools the best they can be. I currently sit on the Green Central site council.
The School Board is aware that there has been a great deal of discussion about the achievement gap (difference in achievement between students of color and whites).
I feel strongly about supporting MPS tackling this issue. I want all students to have an equitable access to resources and achieving to their highest potential. I want to be part of the solution. I am ready to help/work.
Are you comfortable listening to diverse opinions and feel free to respond in turn (i.e. give and take dialogue)?
Yes, as a person of color that has been the case my entire life. I look forward to listening and contributing within diverse group settings.
